how do i get the server to extract a tar, the tar link in the script lets me create tars but i thought this was ment to allow extraction as well

Just click on the tar file in the file list, and you should be presented with options to untar it.

when clicking tar link the bottom changes, saying please enter where you would like to save the tar file and theres a create tar button, no extraction option that i can see,

i did find the extraction command on a newsgroup and type the command in manually with the command tool, which did the job, also had to do the same for file renaming, not sure where the rename option is, unless thats what replace is?

with no experience or knowledge of unix commands this is all new to me, this is a very nice script even if i was forced to use my brain for a few mins
