Deobfuscation
I notice dnsstuff.com has a tool for "Deobfuscation".

The obvious question, what is Deobfuscation?

Anyone can type the word into a search engine, but where is the definition of the word?

That is correct... I know how to use goole (basically at least).

But I am looking for a simple defination. I know that people on here use dnsstuff, so what better place to find out?Smile

(I looked in my pocket dict. here BTW before posting, which turned up nothing).

Yeah, I have been trying to deduce exactly what it is trying to do by pluging different web address into the tool.

Not a clear way to find the meaning of the word though.

I guess I could email the webmaster, he may be just thrilled to explain it! LOL

I think it's a URL cleaner upper.

For example, try clicking on this url: http://1078280352.

Then try entering 1078280352 into the de-obfucator.

Note: you can do create your own dotquad shortcut with this tool:

When I click that URL I end up at:

http://search.msn.com/results.asp?q=1078280352

Cool

Interestingly enough my browser won't take me to those decimal type addresses either:

Guess it's not universally supported. When I click on it, it takes me to the "Allred Family Roster". Smile

I guess its an IE6 thing.

I don't think a lot of people would know about the ability to use decimal/octal variants of the address.

I didn't.

Neither would of I Angelic, if weren't that I saw it in an article on how to defeat name based http proxy filtering in an old edition of 2600. (can't get to 12.123.45.1 for your free p0rn!? go to the decimal ip instead!)

Mmm I wonder why IE6 doesn't support it.

if I remember correctly, the equation used to come up with the obfuscated ip address is:

Code:
a * 255^3 + b * 255^2 + c * 255 + d
