I recognize that the multi-user has password protection built in, but is there a way to password protect access to Fileman itself (i.e., require a password to run it) in the single-user version?
If you are on a UNIX server, use .htaccess.
Regards.

Can someone give detailed instructions on how to set up .htaccess to password protect Fileman? The web site manager on our Unix server allows password protecting anything in the htdocs directory but not in the cgi-bin - how does .htaccess work and how do you set it up?

If you can execute cgi scripts outside of your cgi-bin directory, then you can use .htaccess to protect your Fileman scripts.
Go here for a nice .htaccess tutorial (which I have linked at least three times in the Gossamer Threads Forums in the past two weeks...in other words...search other forums in Gossamer Threads for advice on the script you are using):
