I've got the admin set up and have setup a category and added a link built the pages can't search the pages or find the add link page from the pages created

Okay, you've got some problems.

You DON'T put your template files anywhere other than your TEMPLATE directory. They MUST remain there, as they are used to GENERATE your web site. Notice all the <%foo%>'s and the way link urls are being displayed on mouseovers, with <U_cgi_url%> and stuff like that.

Move the files your your template directory and rebuild. Your pages will parse and should be able to search your database.
