Can't locate links.cfg ~ admin.cgi
Hi ~ This is my first attempt to install a cgi script.

I've been reading previous posts with similar problems, if I have missed one with the answer I need, please let me know. I still can't get past the following error.

Error including libraries: Can't locate links.cfg in @INC (@INC contains: /WWW/htdocs/internetbusinesstools/cgi-bin/links/admin /usr/lib/perl5/i586-linux/5.00404 /usr/lib/perl5 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/i586-linux /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl .) at /WWW/htdocs/internetbusinesstools/cgi-bin/links/admin/admin.cgi line 27.

I used leapftp to upload in ascii.

I've set all the permissions at 755 and changed the links.cfg page to the following;

As discussed quite a few times in this forum...you need to use the ABSOLUTE PATH to the links.cfg in the require line in the admin.cgi script:

Code:

require "/www/htdocs/internetbusinesstools/cgi-bin/links/admin/links.cfg";

Thanks Eliot,
Bet you tired of answering the same questions, your patience is very much appreciated.

I don't guess I know all the places on the admin.cgi page to make the changes. I changed the one "required" place but still get the error..

Well...the error message indicates that you are NOT using the correct ABSOLUTE path in the require line in the admin.cgi and in the path variables (e.g., $db_script_path, $build_root_path, etc.) in your links.cfg file.

Either search this forum for finding your absolute path via telnet OR contact your hosting company for information about your account and setting up custom CGI scripts.

Maybe you should uppercase /www/ in your paths so they match case with the path in your error message.

Hi Eliot,
I've made a lot of changes. I think I found the correct path, and also changed to WWW instead of www. I'll post the latest error below, but I'm confused about where to put all of the files. After the path (WWW/htdocs/internetbusinesstools/cgi-bin/) I've created a directory called links, and in that directory I've created another directory admin. Which files go into links and which files go into admin. Also, do the html files go into internetbusinesstools/(and not into the cgi-bin/links directory)

I've transfered a lot of files from the links directory to the admin directory but still get the following message..

I would HIGHLY recommend that you keep the default directory structure that came with the links.zip file BEFORE moving files around...modifying the location of files and paths before gettting the default version to work first is not wise.

I would start over from stratch and use the same directory structure in the .zip file, then edit the links.cfg file accordingly. When you get the scripts working, THEN start modifying the files and directory structure.

Got it?

Thanks again Eliot,
When I downloaded the zip file, and opened it. All of the files were there, no folders. As instructed in the readme.file there should have been two folders, links & admin, so I thunked anyway. That is why I'm confused where they go.

I will erase everthing and redownload v2.o and reinstall.

I'm going to crack this nut ;)

Couple suggestions:

1) Read the FAQ in the Resource Center that shows the directory layout and permissions.

2) Use another de-compression program like WinZip 7.0 to extract the files and the folders will be preserved.

3) Try experimenting with easier Perl scripts. Go out to the Web and try some simple CGI/Perl tutorials first to understand some of the basics of Perl programming.

Example:

http://www.cgi101.com

Links is not an easy script to install...you should really become familar with the basic codes of Perl before jumping into a complex script like Links.
