After many, many hours of pulling my hair and hitting the keyboard, I did a very long search of this forum.
To my shock, it seems that Qute_FTP has a major problem uploading this script. Very minor mention of this MAJOR PROBLEM. I would suggest to the "Moderators" and writters of this script to place in big BOLD type 'DO NOT USE QUTE_FTP" in the doc's. I downloaded WS_FTP Pro and uploaded the raw script again. WOW!!! It worked the first time.

I use CUTE FTP to upload every file on my site, including LINKS 2.00 and didnt have any problem, maybe you didnt upload the files in ASCII.
I highly recomend CUTE FTP over WSFTP

yeppers, worked fine with 2.00 but I'm running 2.01 and it did not work. I've been writting scripts like this one and installing them from the start of using them on the Internet. Qute_FTP is a fine program I use it all the time, but it does not like 2.01, and I did upload it using ASCII, it does not like the links.def file.

I used cuteftp for a while and found that you had to be very careful with ascii.

I then changed to AbsoluteFTP, found at

You get a free trial period, and then it is very reasonable to buy, however once you use it, I don't think you will want to get rid of it.

The latest versions of cute_ftp are known to have problems with ASCII uploading, even if ASCII is specifically selected. No idea why. We have this problem over at the UBB forums too.
