Permission denied... trying to see links page

Permission denied... trying to see links page
I believe I have all the permissions set as per the installation readme but keep getting the following message: Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /cgi-bin/links on this server.
(My structure is mydomain/cgi-bin/links)

I can access mydomain/cgi-bin/links/admin/admin.cgi and have added links and built pages. I don't understand why one route lets me through and not the other. I am an admitted newbie so I'm hoping it's one small step.....

Thanks,
Vinny
PS: I did move my "pages" directory out of the cgi-bin and into the html directory.

1) Why didn't you just add a reply to your ORIGINAL Thread??

2) Did you change permissions of your /links/pages/ directory to 777 and also the other folders (New, Ratings, Cool)?

Also, do you have your .htaccess file configured to use index.html and/or index.shtml as your DEFAULT file.

If you are getting a 403 error, it means that directory browsing is turned off....You need to specify a default file.

This has been discussed before in many of the support forums. Search for .htaccess DirectoryIndex.

I didn't reply to my previous post because the subject line could be different and attract new comments for a slightly different problem. Once some threads have been viewed people tend to move on and not revisit that header.

Why do you use ALL CAPS to highlight ORIGINAL and answer many innocent posts with a condescending attitude? I appreciate any help but please consider we are not all the expert moderator of this forum.

Thank you,
Vinny

Eliot was pointing out that there was no need to start a new thread and as he has to tell people not to post duplicate threads almost everyday then it does get a bit tedious, especially as people don't seem to listen.

Looks to me like your script is working JUST fine!

http://www.theguitarzone.com/pages/

You have the wrong link in your "homepage".

It is not located at:

http://www.theguitarzone.com/links/

AND you have the wrong links set-up in your template pages. Which means that you either configured the $db_cgi_url incorrectly OR you have hard-coded the wrong links...

Example:

http://www.theguitarzone.com/...Instructional_Sites/

Click on Add a Site, you will be taken to the following page:

http://www.theguitarzone.com/cgi-bin/add.cgi

which, of course, is the wrong URL...

So, again, check your LINKS.CFG thoroughly to make sure you are using the correct PATHs and URLs in the *_path and *_url variables.

Need some help with this?

Go to the Resources section, then click on Links, then click on FAQ, then click on Links 2.X...there is a FAQ that is linked to a Thread in one of the Links 2.0 Forums that lists folder and file permissions as well as the structure that you should use.

BTW: You should use default configurations of applications before attempting to modify the script....

ALSO, I would PASSWORD PROTECT your admin script, because I was able to access it![/b]

Thank you, I'll work on it in the morning. I figured I was close but being somewhat new to this I appreciate being pointed in the right direction.

Best Always,
Vinny
