Links 2.0 problems with new hypermart server configuration

Links 2.0 problems with new hypermart server configuration
This is an edited repost of my earlier post in the discussion forum that was not answered, presumably because it should have been posted here instead.
--------------------------------------------------------------

I really need to get my site running again, so I can redesign and update it, as I have not had time in the last two years due to my now full-time job which involves a lot of overtime.

I have used the free version of Links 2.0 with reciprocal links to Gossamer Threads for at least five (more accurately, several) years now, and have never had any problems at all with the script on hypermart's servers.

If anyone at GT can help me get my site working again on hypermart I would gladly pay the $150.00 asking price for Links 2.0 or whatever the latest version is. I don't think I need Links SQL at this point and would rather not pay $450.00 for something much bigger and powerful than I need right now, although I certainly might be interested in upgrading later.

Any suggestions, besides switching to another host? I am not looking for a free host. I am a paying customer of hypermart and was very happy with them until they made all the recent changes and screwed up my site. I have tried other paid hosting services and would prefer to stick with hypermart, because of all the features offered with cgi scripts, ssi, ect. (I know these are probably obsolete by now, but i have a limited knowledge of working with them) and the fact that I never had problems with slow loading that I often had with other paid hosting services.

There are probably just a few changes that need to be made within Links 2.x in order to work on hypermart's servers. The main problem seems to be related to the search.cgi script, as a search of the site for "construction" for example will bring back results, but they quickly are replaced with an error message. Anyone interested in helping can see for themselves:

There is no problem when you follow the links from top level to subcategory to actual website links, but only when you attempt to do a search.

I would really appreciate some help and will be glad to finally purchase the product if I can get my site working properly again. Thanks!

The error page gives this address:

http://surfbatonrouge.hypermart.net/cgi-bin/link.shtml

Check your search_results.html in the template file, or recheck any changes you made in the search.cgi

Normally, link.html is called in by the script, and would not need to be named .shtml

OK, I managed to capture the source code while the page appeared momentarily, using the search term 'house' and I see what's causing the problem. You get to figure out how to fix it, it's in red: (I only posted the last bit of the page.)

So you see, that code is redirecting to page that does not exist... And why is it in <html><head> tags...

The slow response to your post, at least from me, is I hear very little good from folks on hypermart, and frequently problems are on the server end, not really fixable (my impression, anyway...).

Thanks, PerlFlunkie, but I had been considering finally paying for the script and removing the reciprocal links to Gossamer Threads about the time Hypermart was acquired by whatever company and made all the changes. I am not a "web designer" or expert in any of these areas....just dabbled in the early versions of HTML and in the case of CGI scripts I was able to install them and even alter them a little once I became familiar with them. The problem is that I was not working at the time and had plenty of time to learn all that stuff, but now I have very little free time at all.

My question to you then is, if I purchase Links 2.0 on my credit card tonight or tomorrow, can you then make the changes that need to be made for me? Also, I'd like to know if customers who purchase Links 2.0 receive any kind of discount on Links SQL if they later decide to upgrade. Thanks so much for responding so quickly!

Surfdog,

I don't work for or with GT at all, I just post here alot! Having fiddled with the script for several years, I enjoy helping when i can. Did you look at you link.html in the templates directory? Since that bit of code repeats, it must be there, or somewhere similar...

Look in /links/admin/templates/link.html

Well, maybe it's in category.html, in the <%if_links%%> tag. Your site seems to be having an SSI issue, as the top and bottom of the page show [there was error processing this directive] which means the SSI file could not be found.

Also, the back button will not work on your site...
