When I go to oursite/Links it shows a total of 463 links but when I go to the database at:
oursite/cgi-bin/links/admin/admin.cgi It shows a total of 515 links. When we add in new links
they do not show up in oursite/Links. So links 463-515 are "missing" and no new ones can be added.

I looked at Links and saw a few entries that were not "Validated" so I did
it. Then, I noticed that there was a write errot to the "links.db" - The
permissions did not allow us to update it, so I changed the
cgi-bin/links/admin/data/links.db to read-all,write-all, execute-all (777)

It still didn't change the main page for Links, and I found that we did not
have write permisisons there, either.

I attemted to change the links/Links/index.html file to read-all,write-all
(666) - but got the error message "operation not permitted"

I contacted our web host and this is what they had to say:

I can not find any server related issues as to why this is not working
properly. I have also corrected the ownership of all of the files in the
christians-in-recovery.org/links/ directory, and the same number still
display regardless of what I do (355 and 108).
I looked at your links.db and link 516 is indeed in there (your admin
screen tells me there are 514 total, and there are 514 lines/entries in
your links.db file), but why certain ones are not showing up, I do not know.

I do see other problems with the script (like the way the
links/Links/index.html turns bright pink after a few minutes), and because
I just can't see anything wrong on our end my best suggestion would be to
contact the script author, or post a message on the help forum they provide
- there may be a chance that someone else has experienced a similar type
problem.

If you have any ideas or suggestions on how to get Links up and running properly,
please let us know!

I'm not sure if I read this right so please let me know if I'm wrong but..

1. Where are you getting this number of links in the Admin section?

I suspect you might be looking at the number that you get in the ID field when you try to add a new link. If so, then you should know that you should not take this as an indicator of the number of links in your database.

can I suggest that you add a test link into your database, check that you've verified it and then try to search for it using the admin script.

If you find it in the links.db then chances are my guess is right and you're just assuming that for each ID number there is a link..

Just so's you know whenever your delete a link from your database you will not free up that ID number for another record to use instead. Personally I have a database of 120 links with the latest ID number running at 162 because of various removed links.

Thank you for your prompt reply! OK, we have part of the problem solved. I was getting the total number of links from the number displayed when a new link was added.

I just tried adding a new link and I did a "Build All" to update things. And it seems to be working fine now.
