500 Internal Server Errors don't tell you much except that there is something wrong, and the server is standing up and shaking its fist at you. The problem might be wrong permissions, file uploaded in Binary, corrupt script...
It would be helpful if you can view your CGI error logs. The logs should tell you a lot more about the problem.
