Control center?

Control center?
Hi,

On a Links 2.0 site I saw a control center (control.cgi) which allowed users to have a username/password and manage their links (like SQL but not). I have wanted this forever but have never seen it discussed here and searching turned up nothing?? I emailed the owner but haven't heard back yet, anybody know?

Thanks!
Ryan

Until next time...

That is a product of a certain user who pirated dozens of mods and charged bookoo bucks to upgrade to "Links 2.0 Pro"... need I say more?

Who? Me, glennu, eliot, jerry, youradds, bmxer, etc. etc. etc. How? by combining dozens of mods into a paid, premodified version of Links 2.01, without any sort of authorizion. The user has subsequently removed *some* of them...

I should also point out that some people have experienced many errors when using this "Extended" version and received no support from the "programmer" after shelling out $250.....

control center? Hmm wouldn't be very hard to do.
Actually though I wouldn't go about doing it the way like that person has done. Because it's possible for anyone to delete, add, modify a registered users links without needing to login.

Hi Glenn,

What do ya think about about creating one of these? I would be willing to pay since it probably would take a little time. I have been looking for something like this since I got Links last year!

Until next time...

Hey guys, there is a company that gives user driven directories away. Users can post links upload files (to that company’s server not to yours) create categories on the fly. It is very easy to operate. It can be co branded with ease. They have many features. Administrators have full control over the content. All this is for FREE.

Check my directory www.022.com/vault. It took me 90 seconds to put it online. I also send them email and they told me that they would have a utility that upload existing dB into their system soon.

I was trying to install the gossamer Link V2.0 and never could do it.

DONT SPAM PLEASE.

You have just posted a blatant advert - you getting commission?....I expect so.....

Links2 has or can be made to have all the features you mentioned and MORE. If you couldn't install Links2 then maybe you should learn some basic computer and Internet skills such as FTP and using text editors.

Yep no problems. It'll be a bit of work and so will be paid install only (although I might make a cut down 'lite' version freely available but of course it won't have as many features...).

It'll include the following:

Uses session cookie so once user logged in they can add, modify, delete or view stats of their links.
Login opens a screen showing all their links.
Uses checkboxes so can delete multiple links if required.
Delete confirm window
Can also view multiple link stats by selecting links. (also shows current hits to date ie. in hits directory.)
Add forms and modify forms are dynamically generated (like in admin) so if new fields are added there's no need to update the file. (system defaults etc.. of course are not shown to the user)
User can log out.
User can have password, username emailed to them.

Things that probably won't be added for various reasons:

Giving user option to modify their profile.
Having a multiple modify option.

Things that might be added:

Multiple add links option.
Encrypted passwords.
Have button for user to delete profile plus all associated links.

'there is a company that gives user driven directories away'

Yeah I agree with Paul advertising a directory site in this forum is not on. Besides I took a quick look and it's not comparable to links. From what I can see they don't give directories away and the webmaster merly acts as an editor. In terms of features, links beats it hands down.Smile Also because it's hosted also by this company there'll naturally be some restrictions...

Yea...I agree with Paul.

Posting information about competitive products and discussing its merits compared to GT products is fine, but blatant advertising like you've done is against forum policies and netetiqutte.

.....and on top of that (IMHO) it is just so cheesy and pathetic.....

I cringe at the way he thinks "their" product is "so great". Ugh.
