How many catagories and subcatagories can I have before the performance of links will be hampered. At the moment it looks like I'll have 100 plus catagories.

You are receiving a reply from a non Perl guru.
I think it does not depend on the number of the categories alone, but also on the number of Links per category, per page to be build and also the ISP Services you may have.
As simple, If your Category listing is in Three figures and Links no. in Four or more Links SQL is a solution that I would recommond you. In the lower area of the above saying it will still work good lets say 2,000 to 5,000 links. But I would but recommed.
