I went to the MyLinks page from the 2.0 mods page and got:

Frank8.. a very inconsiderate Links 2.0 user has given me the reason to discontinue my mods for Links 2.0 and Links SQL 1.1..

Frank8 made me realize how many Links 2.0 users are like him and don't appreciate what people like me and the well respected, Eliot, do for other Links users..

Frank8 in my opinion is a twelve year old bastard.. He is a stupid [bleep!]..

i no longer allow the distribution of mylinks.. as the author of the code i have the right as to the copyright and the ability to disallow distribution to the usage of mylinks starting from that day..

i don't care about past users.. all those users installed mylinks before this day.. but there will be no future users and hopefully past users will not pass on the code to future users as it is a violation of the reserved rights and something i no longer want to give to links2 users..

if you get the script 'silently'.. then the person who gave it to you .. 'i do not like'..

I'm sorry to lose such a valuable asset apparently. It received high marks. It should probably be removed from the Links 2.0 Modifications page if it's not going to be available.

I´m sorry for you, that anybody (perhaps a baby) made you so angry, but I´m looking for a mylinks-script, like a hungry dog. Is there not any way that I get them, or from anybody else?
I would need them for an official german service and not just for fun. If you have any idea, I´ll be very glad.

Okay the scripts by Widgetz were the best and are clearly missed but he has clearly stated that he is not letting them be distributed anymore. He wrote them and so he is quite within his rights to withdraw them at any time.

So it leaves 2 choices:

Either to to carry on asking for them (which is highly unlikely to to get anywhere)

Or to try to find alternatives (ie. try exploring different ideas etc...)

I favour the second option.

What the heck is going on? Everyone is running off with their mods. Did I miss something? Eliot, Jerry Su, and everybody fighting with each other. Geez, this used to be the greatest board and scripts on the Internet.

Really, I'm extremily happy that I got Jerry's cool mods running before this idiot Frank8 came here, but since it's up to Jerry what he's doing with his mods, we can't help it - they're off.

My last chance was, to contact all users of the "mylinks"-forum, who loaded mylinks before. And see: I have it now! In the gossamer-forum are where helpfull people, where you normaly don´t found!

There will be always some bad guys witch do a lot of bad mistakes, but I dont know why the other straight users have the "handkiss". A company dont close, when one employer make mistakes, or?

I'm not sure what Frank8 did to cause all this, and it's really beside the point. If the author does not want his work distributed then that is his right and you should respect that.

If it was to be used on an "official" site then you could easily have offered to pay for an exclusive licence for its use.

Instead you went completely against the author's wishes and against his terms of use by seeking it elsewhere. I strongly suggest that you seek the author's permission before using that script on a site of any description.

If this trend of ignoring restrictions on freeware and shareware scripts continues to be ignored then they just won't be released in that format anymore.
