Sorry, I'm not answering your question here, but asking another question regarding basically the same thing.
We have Links 2.0 and we use the metasearch program from http://www.chatologica.com what we would like to do, is be able to incorporate it into the same search instead of using the failed search to redirect to the metasearch.
What we would like to do, is be able to search, say, for horses, and our Links database brings up 50 records, well after the last page of the links database information, we'd like it to automatically include the results from the metasearch scripts.
We are assuming that somehow we need to incorporate the metasearch into the links 2.0 system.
How? We're totaly clueless on that.
Does anyone have any suggestions, so this happens:
Search for Horse
Results from the links 2.0 system.
Page 1 Page 2 Page 3 then have a Page 4 that will link directly to the metasearch script so that we can bring up the metasearch scripts info.
Using this method, it doesn't matter how many pages are brought up from Links, just so long as the last page searches using the metasearch scripts.
Does this make sence?
Thanks if you can help

Here s how it work.

All you have to do is look in the Altavista.cgi and add your homepage header and footer before and after the $results.

The Default shows only the results. Which is $results

now you just copy your header and footer and paste it before and after $results.

That s it!...

Hope this help

Sorry that this is kinda off topic.

WebKing CyberThrill is a 100% scam. And opening a window when someone enters your site is really cheap and make your site look VERY bad.

Hi WebKing,

How did you pass the search string into
altavista.cgi?

To kwli:

Altavista.cgi is already programmed by alex.

it s just a blank search page with only the search box and nothing else, but once you type in what you are searching for, it pulls out Altavista's database.

All you have to do is change the FORM point to altavista.cgi instead of your search.cgi and you will get the results from altavista.

Again, LOOKING carefully in the altavista.cgi. You ll find out where and how the FORM looks like.

use ur header & footer copy and paste them before the $results I think... so the blank page results becomes your header and footer attach to it...

Still dont get it?...
I dont know what to tell u... Smile)

bye

Looking at your site webking, I don't see he string setup.

Meaning that I web through your links and pick one. Then I search for it using the title. The link doesn't come up at all.

This topic was discussed months ago and I just brought it up. Permission from Altavista was granted as far as I concerned.

Thanks for telling me that Cyberthrill is a scam. I will take action on them propriately!

Try to use 'Virtual MetaSearch Engine' from:
http://services.curryguide.com/

It should work well for your Links Script. You don't need to change anything on your script.

Ok,
I have looked at the curryguide, and it looks like a great meta search...

Now... what I would love to be able to do is this:
Have one search input box and when the user clicks "SEARCH" have the form pass the Keywords First to my database returning links from the Links System, then return hits from Curry Guide.

Is this possible?

did anyone got this thing to work properly?
i want the person to search for let's say java and if the word java is not found in links directory, i want it to search altavista.cgi and display the results automatically. one way to do it is to refresh the page but how does altavista.cgi knows the word you are searching for?

Re: Meta Search?... How Do You Integrate the Altavista.cgi? into LINKS? Link back Offer! In reply to
like i said , just use the refresh command but the problem is how to pass the word you are searching for to altavista.cgi.
it seems to me that you need to change altavista.cgi to understand it
