Re: Links and Megalinks In reply to
The basic difference, that I have seen (correct me if I am wrong), is the Mega Links has all of the mods installed that people have made.

MegaLinks 2.0 consists of the original Links script by Gossamer-Threads
with the following add-ons:

EMAILIZER:
Located at the administration page, allows you to bulk email everyone
who submitted a link. Has a nice "pick and choose" interface for
narrowing down the emails you want to include.

DEMOCRACY:
An add on to emailizer, gives the submitter the option of NOT recieving
any promotional/update emails that you might send through emailizer. The
choice shows up at the "add a resource" and "modify a site" pages.
[an extra yes/no field was added to the links database for this mod]

EXPIRATOR:
Allows you to set how many days the link will exist in the database, then
after it expires it shows up in expirator and allows you to delete it.
[an extra text field was added to the links database for this mod]

REVIEW-IT:
Creates an "on the fly" review of each individual link. You or the submitter
write the review and then you have the choice of showing or not showing the
review.
[two extra fields were added to the links database, $review and $revchoice]

RATE-IT:
Allows users to rate each individual site on a 1-10 scale and the rating shows
up by the link. In addition, the original rate-it mod was modified using
"frameit.cgi" from http://www.verysimple.com/scripts/frameit.html to let the
user see the site to be rated as well as a small bottom frame with the
rating function.
[two extra fields, $votes and $rating, were added to the links database]

TOP RATINGS:
Creates a page where the user can see either the Top 10 or 10% of the
rated sites either by number of votes or by rating.

HARD CODED CATEGORIES:
In subcategory pages, when a user goes to "add a resource" the current
category is the default category in the drop down list.

SPECIAL CATEGORY CHARACTERS:
Instead of having one category name that must be able to be made into
a unix directory, there are two: one for the directory, and one for the
html in the site. SO now you can have dashes and other special characters
in the category names.
[utilized the $meta keywords field in the category database]

SEARCH CATEGORIES:
Gives the user the option of searching not only the whole site but also the
individual subcategory they are in.

SEARCH WORD LOG:
Keeps a simple log of the search words used at your site. Stored in the
data directory of your admin page.

REFERRER CHECK:
Prevents people from spamming your "add a resource" page. Checks the referrer
who sent the form and if it isn't from your site, it doesn't get submitted.
Tried it - it works.

BANURLS MOD:
Keeps losers from constantly submitting sites that you don't want in your database

LINKS TREE:
Creates a page listing every category and every link in your site. Useful,
but if you have a lot of links I'd watch out!

JUMP HACK:
Tiny modification that allows users to link to your site and for every
referral their number of "hits" at your site will go up. Increases their
popularity.
