ok.. i was reading serrow's post yesterday and decided to do this mod. I personally am not sure if I myself will need it but I thought it might be useful..

Anyways.. Like I said yesterday, there is a preview of this mod today..

Right now it's very simple.. (cause I started yesterday night) but I think it's getting there..

I thought I was out of my mind letting people like.... well.. YOU.. to use my administration.. but I created a REBUILD DB function that will recreate my db after you people destroy it.. hehe

so.. if you go in and you find i have no links anymore.. rebuild.. there should be 12 links

anyways.. i disabled 4 things from you guys.. 1. news posting 2. emailing 3. emailing in expired links (cause i would practically get email bomb!@! ) 4. my ad manager

anyways.. try it out.. tell me what to add.. tell me what to change..

i copied alot of lepo's code.. i changed it to look more like links 2.0 code.. i am trying to change it so it will have many templates for email.. but I am having trouble with that

also.. the email page is still under lepo's format.. i want to change the parsing to the way links 2 parse before i change the subroutine..

FYI.. check version is sorta stupid..

it uses LWP::simple and get's a file on my website with the latest version.. if your version equals that version you have the newest version.. if not you have an old version...

if the file contains nothing.. most likely my server is down..

that is just so when i release it.. I am very likely to keep updating.. and therefore.. you guys can keep up with me

btw.. another fyi.. the reason it says Hi Demo! is cause I have a mod installed that allows multiple administrators.. it stores the admins name and email so when they add links the thing will automatically be inputted.. also when they post news that will be hardcoded too..

i have a administration level system.. and demo happens to be level 3 level 1 can post and nothing else.. level 2 can post and modify.. but they can't delete and build.. and level three can do anything

yea.. crontab does send emails if you want it to.. forgot how to set it..

anyways.. i guess i will keep a text log.. if you really want it..

about crontab version.. ok.. email is ok.. 5 days and the day that it is deleted?

alrighty then.. now there is a problem..

I DON'T HAVE TELNET ON HYPERMART..

i will probably script up a perl program and just get someone to let me borrow their account for a few tests..

yea.. that's possible.. on the crontab version right..

hmm.. the web based can have it too.. sorta like a "ALMOST EXPIRED" section

I started thinking about this mod about 3 months ago, but since i never needed it for my site, i never really stepped up to doing it.

after seeing all the "me too" posts i wanted to hear some serious discussion on it.

you look like your a master mod specialist here in the forum and when i first heard you mention the $10 i kinda rolled my eyes. Now is see that this mod is probably what hundreds of links owners are looking for, and if i ever decide to create my new site complete with the wigitz expirator, I'd surely send you $9.99 and that's just because links itself was free for my personal use

anyway, I'm going to keep watching your thread, but thanks a lot for making this your newest project

Well I think the cron thing is all I need. Maybe the script could, when using cron, put the deleted links into a seperate textfile. Just to make sure nothing will be deleted that shouldn't be deleted.

From what I can see, it looks like this mod is all that of Lepo's Expirator mod.

I know you want to add more, and perhaps someone will suggest something else for you to add (I personally like the idea of multiple email templates), but it is honestly all that I can think of that I presently need.

Please let me know if you'd like someone else to beta test it for you :-)

What do you mean by the output of the script?
I linke Jeroen's idea.

Also, how does one actually set the expiration dates. For most I am assuming that you have a default number of days (declared variable or something) that one can set for all links. However, I assume that one can set the number of days for each individual links if necessary, from the admin.

It looks good. That's all is needed - assuming you complete the cron and we can set it on autopilot and forget it.

hello.. telnet version is well underway!

James Murray was really nice and agreed to let me use his telnet and his database to test the mod.

It works the way I want it and it is basically all the stuff in the web based version crammed into one very short subroutine.

I will begin adding more tommorrow.

my review mod uses a database similiar to links itself..

it will practically be like the links are subcategories and the reviews are the links.. but of course that is not the case

admin validation and auto validation will both be availible..

Very NICE work widgetz! I like your new Expirator mod for links2.

I have been looking for a way to do mass validation in just the same manner you do mass delete in your Expirator. Do you know if such a mod exists?

Also,I like your multi admin ideas. How about posting how we can get that mod also (if it is available).
