Cross-Categories
I have looked at almost all the postings and couldn't find answer to this one.
On Yahoo, if you go to News & Media, the first subcategory is Arts & Humanities@. But this subcategory doesn't reside in the News & Media section. It's url shows that it is actually a subcategory from another main category which is also shown here. Yahoo shows this with an the character '@' at the end of the category name.
Can I do this with links? If yes, how?

You could use the "Related Categories" field to do something similar since that is the purpose of that field as well.

Bobsie, Thanks very much for the suggestion. I also tried putting the <%related%> tag before to the <%category%> in the template (I think I have overdone myself with that one really), but got the full path to the related link. SO for the time being, I am just going to take your suggestion and keep working on it.
Once again, I really appreciate these forums and you certainly are putting in a lot of hard work here.
