Is it possible to change the 'new' icon?

I'm thinking either;

a) so that instead of saying 'new' it could say something else like 'recommended' or 'top site' or anything really. Is there somewhere in one of the files where just chnaging the word changes the icon?

or

b) Changing the 'new' icon to another graphic completely, like a smily face or a star etc

If I could do either of the two I'd simply manualy turn the 'Is new' on off or off within admin.

Whilst typing this I've also had another thought; I wouldn't want the amended 'new' icon to appear next to the catagories. Is it possible to make that not happen?

1) Edit the link.html file.

2) About changing the "new" status, you cannot do this manually, as it is updated automatically when your re-build your directory. And there is way too much hacking involved to ignore this process. What you could do is extend or lessen the "new" date variable - $build_new_cutoff in the links.cfg file.

BTW: There are also a few "New" mods listed and linked in the Resources section of this site.
