Multilang Plugin Demo
Hi

Just browsing through the Multilanguage demo here:

http://www.gossamer-threads.com/...ltilang/page.cgi?d=1

I can't find a button on that page to "translate" that current page to the other language being offered in the demo (German?). Am I missing something? Is there no link on each page to the same page in the corrresponding language? Or is it just an option from the very top menu?

No, apparently we are. =) The second page has a link:

http://www.gossamer-threads.com/...2Findex.html&d=1

I'll look at getting the home page fixed up, and making the link more prominent.

Cheers,

Alex

Aha. Excellent, thank you.

Does this plugin work with 'Community'? If there is a way that it should work with Community? The reason I ask is that there might be a need for a forum to be attached to the site to 'discuss' records in the database. Therefore, Community would be required (?) to link borth links <=> forum. Therefore, is there an equivalent plugin for the forum/community?

Cheers

I'm hopless at explaining myself. Hope this makes things a little clearer:

Code:
you are browsing category "foo":

[ view results in english | view results in welsh ]

record 1 (discuss this record - [link to forum for this record])
record 2 (discuss this record -[link to forum for this record])

When someone clicks on "record1" they actually download a PDF, but tha'ts irrelevent to this question. Now when they click on 'discuss record1' I want to transfer them to forum/record1 to discuss record1 - I presume this sort of tie-in is possible with or without Community? The reason I thought community was needed was that I'd like to display on the LinksSQL results page the number of discussions or number of threads ongoing in forum record1? I'd like the information for Links and Forum to be available to both apps? Or have I missed what Community is -- community is only a centralized user database?? And if so, would I be able to do what I want to do with 'hooks' or 'plugins' or 'globals'?

Cheers

For the Links <-> GForum integration, there is a plugin 'LinksForum' (by me), which can automatically set up forums for all your links. You can then place a link to the relevant forum on the Links page.

A multi-language setup in GForum is easily possible with different template sets.

Alex,

Which languages are available per English translations? I've seen it translate English <-> German.

Thanks

Hi,

You can have as many languages as you like. The plugin doesn't do any translation, it merely allows you to enter a link in multiple languages.

Cheers,

Attn: Developer(s)

I'm VERY interested in the plugin, however it's priced too high and I'm fully aware that software is worth $500 due to the time and programming involved, however I feel the developer will get EXTRA support if the price is more affordable and attractive for the masses.

That makes this plugin more expensive than a copy of windows (worth 1000's), a copy of Links SQL (worth 1000's), a new PC (prices may vary), etc... !!!

Cool

Speak for your self!

The software is less than worthless, and if M$ didn't extort the fees for it, do you *REALLY* think *ANYONE* would register Windows if it was shareware??? After they killed OS/2 with most likely illegal software/code changes to make it incompatible AFTER the fact, their true colors were shown. Windows cannot compete in a FAIR market, and only holds on because of mistakes made by both IBM and the general public in the mid 80's (glorifying a mediocre programmer, and giving him the world on a plate -- remember -- he wrote DOS)

BTW: The original ads for windows (which I lost in my last move, <sigh>) tagged it "Windows: From the people who brought you DOS." until they realized exactly what that meant.

>>>> Real sore point for the past 15 or so years.

Links SQL, though, has been worth it's virtual weight in real gold.

Virtually *everyone* wants to switch from windows to something that works and doesn't crash. Few people switch from GT programs to any of the "other guys" for exactly that reason -- but loads of people do switch to Links/GT.

GT programs (and support) have saved more time than they ever "cost" in dollars.
