I have copied (through a telnet session) the directory templates/default to templates/default2 and I started to use default2 instead of deafult one template set. However, now I want to switch my template set to deault_php, but I can not find it any more in the setup option->build options (drop down selection list) eventhough the directory is there and the default_php template can also be seen in the user_templates option.???

For the PHP front end, you select the template set name which is minus the _php suffix. That means you will have to have a template set with such a name. For example, if you want the php front end to use the default_php template set, then you select the 'default' template set in the admin.
