for the last few days Page.cgi have been overloading the server and causing it to go down..

We really need some help o this one ASAP.

No changes have bheen done to LINKS SQL in the last few days of any kind..
Any idea?

Hi. Is debugging turned on with your site? That has been known to cause page.cgi to freeze up, and crash a server (on high load servers).

What is the ideal CPU and RAM for a site that is running about 25,000 links and getting about 10,000 hits a day.

I wouldn't have thought they would be that high. Its when you start getting 100,000 page hits a day that you need to start worrying. Anything less, and it shouldn't cause any problems

This is a dedicated server, isn't it?

I have over 300,000 links and on a server with about 200 other websites. I get about the same amount of hits a day. For what you have an old 286 in idle mode should be fine.

Yes with 256 ram.

Have you made any changes / new globals / plugins recently? It could be that one / more than one of them are causing problems.

When I tested page.cgi via SSH for you (on your server), it all run fine.

I'm really stumped as to why its not working

I've been getting hit hard by MSNBot and GoogleBot recently quite a bit. Maybe you're having the same thing; and your server just can't handle all the requests at one time :(

You may want to consider upgrading your RAM too. LSQL is ideally run with more than 256mb (on high traffic sites). We personally have 512Mb standard on our hosting servers; and then on our main Ultranerds one, I believe we have 2Gb RAM (its a beast of a server ).

Not sure what else to suggest :(
