Just wondering what OS people use ?
Hi,

I'm just curious and was wondering about the people with there own servers

what OS you use, any recommendations and how much you pay monthly for it.

Also please list your sites so I can check it out

Linux - www.chois-choice.com - ~US$10 a month - ipowerweb.com - suits me fine at the moment. May switch to GT hosting if the site grows and the dollar returns justify the move.

i used www.mxhub.com $7.95/mth but i pay only $4.95 (yearly package).

Server OS: FreeBSD, several Dell servers.

The majority of the cost is for a very advanced Webmaster to babysit and protect the 3 servers. Traffic is $1-2/gb.

Over $1,200/mo for 3 servers and support. Over 15 websites supported.

Surfing OS: Win 2000

Hosting itself is inexpensive.

It's the support that costs, so options like Gossamer Host or a dedicated, extremely sharp and experienced webmaster will keep you running and respond quickly versus convential, short term "less expensive" hosting.

Servers: couple of home brews-
1 1Gig Intel for static server
1 2.6 gig Xeon (4 gig memory) witrh RAID for My Links and Forum installs, and the MySQL Database
