I would like to alter the ban option that moderators have so that they can ban someone from the entire forum... not just the folder they are in.

I just don't feel comfortable making them an admin and having so much access to the forums admin.

Anyone know how I can tweak the moderator's ban option so that the ban is for the entire forum?

We have all our moderators as admin to enable all the ban options, but have the administration section username/passworded so they can't access it. They can see the links to the admin stuff, but that's all.

That's what I've done for now, but I like the idea of them being able to set the duration of a ban and having to give a reason.

Personally, I'd like to see global bans for usernames rather than IP addresses ... or maybe I just haven't found how to do it yet! It won't help you re durations, but we have a mod-only forum (Invisible to others) for reporting all mod-actions in which works for us.

It also means when someone moderated kicks off, there's a consensus of opinion stating the action was appropriate rather than one poor so-and-so being on the receiving end of temper tantrums!
