The reason is that you cannot change file and directory permissions in Front Page 98. You have to change permissions of files and directories via FTP if you have a virtual web account and NT Explorer or telnet if you have physical access to your web account/server.

I have never seen anyone use Frontpage and DBMan together. It would be better if you could use FTP.

Thanks, the thought did cross my mind. The provider I use "states" all over the place "warning" only use frontPage to change this-that-and yes passwords too. The say it will corrupt the extensions. I make give it a go and see what happens. I'll post any disasters.
Eliot, any thought on the ascii transfer within fronpage.

Yea...You can transfer files via the FTP function in Front Page, HOWEVER, you cannot change permissions of files or directories. You need to do this via FTP or telnet. You can use almost any type of FTP program. But the better ones are the following:

AceFTP
QFTP
WS_FTP

Thanks JPD and Elliot. I've used frontpage for so long now, I forgot all about FTP-ing.
I used "cute" and it worked out great. It is a big step up from what I've used in the past(Ws_ftp32).
All went well and I also spoke to my provider and they said "just avoid the underscore dir's while
using FTP in a FrontPage site". I look forward to learning Perl and screwing up all sorts of code"
Best Regards,
John

No problem... Smile Everyone spells my name wrong.

Great! Glad that you got it to work.

BTW: I use Front Page to design most of my web projects...but I also use telnet and FTP for asp, cgi, and other programming language files.
