dbman from the command line

dbman from the command line
I have a non-dbman database that outputs a query to a dbman database as part of it's output. I'm having trouble with doing searches on a field that has more then one word....I get the /%20 thing for the spaces. I think I can fix it by turning off "ww". I need to do that at the code level, not in the query itself....how do I do that?

thanks folks
