We hack code... html suffers...Tips on checking for html errors?
After a longs days work of hacking up perl code and getting the output to work just right, sometimes the html output gets sloppy.

Seems like todays browsers are very forgiving for certain html errors. Like there may be ...</font></font> but it will still work. I bet many of us who hack scripts have had sloppy html output at one time or another

Does anyone use any html code checking software? If I cut and paste html source code into my FrontPage 98, it fixes errors, but I dont know which parts it fixed.

Check out websitegarage.com - it checks everything on your webpage: load time (images), HTML, spelling etc.

I use a free program called AOL press. (Avaliable at www.aolpress.com.) If I'm having a problem with the page coming out right in my browser, I copy the source and paste it into the editor in AOLpress. When I go to save it, it checks for errors and highlights them.

I verify my HTML with "homesite 3.0"
I run the script, save each section from the internet as ??.html, and then run it through "homesite" to verify the HTML and also have the html.pl next to it and make the changes.
That way you can do anything you want for cosmetics and presentation.
Using "homesite 4.0" is not a good idea because it wants you to make style sheets, etc for the (//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0) standard.

Hey,

problem with Frontpage is that it puts in Custom M$ specific Code that might be completely different in Netscape ( well nothing new here ;-) ) .
I sometimes use HTML Validator ( http://www.htmlvalidator.com/ ) which is quiet good. I think in the new Version you can even say what Browser to "emulate". Another great Piece of Software is Linkbot (http://www.tetranetsoftware.com/products/linkbot-main.htm) which is something like the above mentioned Websitegarage but on your machine. It's payware but I think there is a very good demo available.

Hope this helps

Hi

I use http://validator.w3.org/ the only thing with this however is that you need to have a DTD set.
