Logging IP
Is there a way to add the IP address of the poster to the database?

I am trying to set up a classifieds with dbman. Unfortunantly there are many abusers of these typ systems. I just want to log the IP address and any other useful info I can grab in case need of tracing a user should ever come about. I already intend to use the secure password look up to verify a valid email. Thanks for yout time,

Dale

The following Thread in the Links 2.0 Discussion Forum should help you to add codes to the DBMAN files for "capturing the IP Address" of submitters.

Keep in mind that IP Addresses are dynamically assigned by most dialup ISP and also an increasing number of Cable modem and DSL providers are also randomly assigning IP addresses in order to decrease hack attacks.

With the IP address and server time I should be able to atleast bluff would be posters to try and be honest. In my web site the majority of the vandals are the ones who can hide behind anomity.
Is there a better method of identifying a poster?
Thanks for your help,
Dale

There really is no absolute 100% method...people and companies can mask REMOTE HOST and IP ADDRESSES. Also, more seasoned hackers can access sites with many indirect paths/connections/etc that hides their identity and source.
