Thanks- can you tell my boss that
I guess I just scanned through what you did- it does look about the same.
For the broad and narrow categories, there are two fields: "Category" and "subcategory" for each resource. And as you probably know from dbman, each record may have more than one category.
Then, for the end-user interface I used a javascript available at
http://www.webreference.com/dev/menus/intro2.html
