Hi from a rather chilly part of Scotland.
I'm rather new to this database stuff and would appreciate some words of wisdom on what I suspect is a blindingly obvious and basic question.
How do I make a database in the first place?
To explain:
I've got a database (22 fields x 170 records) in FileMaker Pro 3. I can export this as a Comma Separated Value (CSV)file and the records look a bit like this
"01","aname","anaddress","aphonenumber","","postcode"
I don't want to have to input all these records manually and so I feel there must be a way of using a CSV file in some way.
Using "," as the delimiter will not remove the final " at the end of the last field; the same problem will occur if I put the CSV file into a text editor and replace the "," with another character as the delimiter. Stripping out all the "s followed by a seach and replace on the commas will not work as there are some text fields that could contain commas.
I have the option of exporting as a Tab Separated file (TAB) if this makes life easier
Has anyone got any ideas on converting such a file?
Kind regards
James Ness
