Anaconda - CGI for Amazon.com Associate Bookstores
Hello:

We had quite a nice discussion going elsewhere here in an inappropriate area if the BB (apologies, Alex).

I would like to hear a followup from TMORETTI and ELMS regarding their experiences with Anaconda.

For those new to this discussion, please see http://www.anaconda.net

Thanks!

Hehe...I think you are underestimating the difficulty in creating a script like Anaconda! Yes, using perl to grab a web page using LWP isn't terribly difficult (I didn't use LWP since many ISPs don't install it), but that doesn't get you to a functioning Anaconda script.

You are forgetting about: color tag overrides, hardlink mangling, html templating, results insertion, SSI include emulation, "more" button handling (very tricky), "Location:" referral handling, search term logging, and even the troublesome but always important performance issue.

Anyone wanting to spend many hours creating an Anaconda clone can be my guest, but those that would rather spend time improving their site in other ways can just follow in the footsteps of the many many people that have chosen Anaconda! to enhance thier sites.

Also, don't forget that web "scraping" is sensitive to changes in the underlying site structure. If and when Amazon changes their site, Anaconda will be updated for free.

Cheers,

"Anaconda",
Don't spam too much.. you already did it on Links Modifications.
People don't like spams.. so please watch your step.

P.S. Your cgi is too easy to program, anyone know LWP can program it easily, so please...
