Hello !

I use DSL connection - each time I reconnect to internet and I found that my IP address was changed to another number.

Well, anyone can tell me how can I keep 1 IP only for anytime I reconnect to Net.

Does it happen with cable connection? (I mean the IP will be changed like my DSL)

Yep, as far as I know, cable and DSL both use dynamic IP allocation to stop you setting up servers that will drain the juice from the rest of the network.

I use window 98 - after I install MicroSoft Personal Web Server then connect to internet thru my DSL, people can visit my hompe from my computer via my IP address - Please click here :

(After I read Paul message and came to no-ip.com - here is what I did)

The problem is you cannot bookmark the website above because when my DSL service drop down & I need to reconect it and the IP will change you cannot visit the address above. I like to host my site from my PC because I can do anything I want. Do I need to contact my DSL service and ask them to buy the static IP or something like that. Thanks for your helo

You could try but I don't know if they will be willing to give you a static IP.

If you have a domain name you can point that to your server instead of using the IP so that people can still visit the same URL each time ..ie...www.domain.com, but you just use a dynamic IP service to update the DNS.

I already signed up a domain name http://www.hailua.com at http://www.registerfly.com - I just use the URL Forwarding the hailua.com to my PC server & need to be updated it each time I reconnet to NET. But I dont know how to "use a dynamic IP service to update the DNS". Can you show me more in detail. Thanks alot.
