What is xinet service? What does it control?
Hi All

Been having some server issues like the server complaining that there is no more disk space even though I know for sure that there is tons left

The host says that they restarted the "xinet service" to correct the disk space problem

What is xinet service? All I've found so far is stuff that says it's a monitoring service, but I can't see what it has to do with disk space

Thanks Smile

Hi,

I'm not sure what it would have to do with disk space either. xinetd is a program that launches other programs (it's a replacement for inetd), and is commonly used to handle pop/imap and other tcp services. Maybe the xinetd logs were not being rotated properly and filled up all the disk space?

Cheers,

Alex

Hey Alex Smile

Yeah. I found out that the software engineers who upgraded our server had forgotten to delete a bunch of files. This filled the disk...ugh! Those files have been deleted, and things seem back to normal. I appreciate the info on xinetd. Sounds interesting and useful.
