i dont have my own server, i have a site on www.hostultra.com ...I downloaded SmartFTP because i downloaded Ikonboard, and it said i need an FTP thing, and recommended SmartFTP. Anyway, do i have to use FTP to upload .cgi scripts? why do i need SmartFTP anyway? help me please

Hmm... FTP is short for File Transfer Protocol. If you want to get anything from your home computer to your host's webserver then you'll need some sort of program/method by which to "upload" (transfer) that particular file (script, picture, html page, sound file) from you to them.
Once you've "downloaded" Ikonboard from where ever (hotscripts, etc) to your computer, then you will need to "upload" it to the place where your website is stored so that visitors to your site can use the program.
I personally use Ws_FTP which can be found at http://www.ipswitch.com, to upload files. Remember to upload your .cgi files in ASCII format (your ftp program should have a place where you can set this option).

ok, thanks! but now i got IKONBOARD and am testing the perl_test.cgi thingy...i uploaded it in ASCII and CHMOD'ed it to 755 however the script doesnt work as it should...on the page it shows an Internal Server Error...and the server says it holds CGI-BIN, it even gave me a folder for it...any idea why
