In my case, my modules have no modifactions... all my mods are done by plug-ins (or globals), none of which tap into the whats cool counts (that I can think of).

This is what concerns me. And the problem only started when I upgraded to 2.1.1.

I take it you are using 2.1.1 without a problem in this area?
