.htaccess

.htaccess
Is there a way to run dbman in a directory with a .htaccess-File?

The problem: the web-site contains a general member-area, protected using .htaccess. When running dbman in this area, the main menu appears with no options to log-in or anything else.

I read all topics on this board concerning this problem, but none could help. I also read about the problems between .htaccess and the auth.pl, so I know that dbman takes the server-login as login to dbman.

For me there's another problem: my provider (local provider in Germany) doesn't allow any modifications to the .htaccess. This file is configured via a web-based form. So each time I change logins/passwords the .htaccess will be overwritten. The only workaround could be to modify the dbman.
Are there any solutions? The .htaccess-file needs to be there!

I already thought about running the db.cgi in an 'open' directory and only putting the *.db in the member-area, but dbman said it couldn't locate the default.db.
Because I'm not so common in perl: How do I need to change the path-variables in the default.cfg correctly?

Sorry for the long post, but I really read all topics in the forum concerning .htaccess and passwords and didn't find an answer.

Thanks in advance and excuse my bad english,
