Sounds like there were problems in the install. Check your Webmail/Config.pm and make sure all the paths and URL's are there.
As for the images, make sure you have a /images/webmail folder with the images in that directory.
If you are using POP's, make sure you add a <%Webmail::get_pop%> tag to your main page. That tag will pull in the users mail.
