Back Ups
I was wondering...my back ups directory has over 522 files in it!...it is so large that when I back up my site Windows 98 chokes because it can't handle that many files in one directory so I end up having to split them up into seperate folders..

I was wondering if it was ok to delete all but the most recent backups?

Yes...it is okay...unless you want to keep data from close to two years stored. If you do, then I would consider storing them in a tape drive or zip drive.

Yea, Craig...as has been discussed before in this forum.

Wink

Search this forum for .tar.gz. Widgetz posted codes in this forum that first creates a tar compressed file of all data files, and then deletes them, but keeps the most recent seven backup tar files.

You can also use Cron to delete files, too. Use the rm command in the shell file to delete backup files. You can set the Cron to activate on a weekly basis, which will keep six backup files in your backup directories. But then will delete them on the seventh day...To find out more about Cron, go to the FAQ in the Resource Center that Bobsie wrote.

Is there any way that Links can automatically delete old backups ? I use links in several places on several sites - remembering to go in and delete all these old backups is a royal pain in the arse Frown
