I didn't see anything about it that was "awesome"

It was obnoxious, took forever to answer the questions just to get in and see some of the features etc.

Have you searched the personal/classifieds stuff at cgi-resources?

Mark,

I agree that the registration process is extensive, but that is what makes it great because the FindMatch (SEARCH)feature uses ALL the info you put in so when someone wants to find a Match, they have the options to search for someone that matches all of the options or some or part or custom.

That is why the Process is so extensive and that is one of the things that makes it powerfull.

As for cgi-resources... No, but I will right now.

Thanks!

Mark, I just searched their site and I did not find anything.
But like i said earlier,
I would like something that works exactly like the site above, BUT better layout customizing options....

Thanks!

The Yenta was on Student.com a little while ago. They are redesigning it at present though so its offline. There was about 3 pages worth of questions to fill out. I have no idea where you could get this sort of program, it is quite complicated because it searches a database and compared the current one with the rest of them. An sql database would be needed for sure.

There were a couple yenta scripts that I found on cgi-resources.

unionavenue.com/scripts/download.htm

There are 2 scripts here... one is free, the other one is $3000 which doesn't look like it should cost that much.

Fred,

Thanks.

Yes I do have a little more than that to spend on the program, I just can't find one or a Programmer to do it.

Thanks again.

Jdulburg,

I agree that the Yenta Script is complicated, but I don't think a SQL verssion is abosolutely neccesary if its on a dedicated server, as I plan to have it.

However, an SQL version would be much faster.

I am willing to start with a Perl version as and upgrade later to an SQL version.

As for the scripts you pointed out, yes I have seen them and the one that wants $3000 is a joke. I don't mean to trash the Programmer or the program, but I am trashing the price.

That scrip I would not use even if it was FREE. Its not only astronomical in price but its not even a real personals script. Its more like a modofication of a YellowPages script.

Thank you for your tips and comments!

Shalom aleichem!

Most likely, this script uses SQL to perform more specific and customized searches than are possible on standard flat files. Plus, if there is that much data entered by the users, its likely a flatfile DB would be large to the point of being a hazard for you to use on your server.

SQL is actually very easy to learn and setup. If you have $1000 to spend though, I suggest shopping around. Most likely Yenta has some competition. Or advertise on cgi-resources.. I am sure a programmer there would be happy to help.

I wouldn't mind doing it, but immediately is not in the picture for me right now, I have enough on my plate as it is.

Good luck, and Happy New Year
