span pages
i am using links 2.01 (i think - it's the flat file version) and am having problems with the span pages function.

i have searched the forum and tried the fixes, but nothing seems to work.
in links.cfg i have

$build_span_pages = 1;
# Number of links per page.
$build_links_per_page = 10;

but when i build my category pages (i haven't started entering links yet) all sub-categories show on the page - e.g. if there are 20 sub-cats there will be 20 displayed on the page.

the template has the appropriate next/previous code, but since all sub's are being displayed the next/prev code isn't being displayed anyway.
have there been any definate answers posted to this? i couldn't find them if they were.

by the way, is there a way to set the number of columns to display categories?
instead of 2 i would like to have 4

thanks for the help

Hi,

1) Wrong forum ;) (this is Gossamer Links, SQL - not the flatfile version, which is further down (I'll move it for you)

2)

Quote:
$build_span_pages = 1;
# Number of links per page.
$build_links_per_page = 10;

but when i build my category pages (i haven't started entering links yet) all sub-categories show on the page - e.g. if there are 20 sub-cats there will be 20 displayed on the page.

Thats how its meant to work. If you look, you've notice it says LINKS per page, not Categories ;) On a category page, ALL the categories are shown.

3) Re the 4 column links, I'll have a quick look for you. I think there is a 3 column hack, but its been a long time since I worked on Links2.

Hi,

This is the closest I could find for a multiple-column link thing:

http://mainstop.com/...mn_link_listing.html

If you have a little bit of Perl knowledge, you could probably change it yourself to make 4 columns. If I had time, I would take a look at it - but I'm afraid I'm a bit busy at the moment, and don't have time to setup a new links2 install+ test out the mod/make changes to it.

Anyway, hope that helps.

Cheers
