I've got an artist database that has many listings by the same artists. The problem is that each and ever listing shows in the menu I build (using an SSI mod). You can see an example here:

Is there a way to have it sort the records so that old one listing for each artist would show up?

It's already set to take the user to a page showing all listings by that artists when they click on their name. Now if it would just show only 1 link ...

I would suggest using the List Categories mod by JPDeni.

Is your SSI being called within DBMan or on a static page?
