I have 7 categories listed starting from the top one so it would be:

top/cat1/cat2/cat3/cat4/cat5/cat6 at 5 and 6 here is were the problems start. The links to gifs in the category.html template start to change to the cat directory, so it would look like:

http://foo.com/cat5/da.gif as the link to the gif file were it should be

http://foo.com/images/da.gif

That's very odd - it works correctly for me. Have you modified the template at all?
