Well the background on your page couldn't make it any more difficult to read.

Also the demo gives a 404.

at least you get a 404, Paul :-) I get a strait "cannot find server" all around, even when trying to access just "scoutsace.org" by itself.

Reading the description of it, on your site, it looks like a great mod. But, like the other people here, the demo gives a 404 Frown Where can we see a working demo?

The background is indeed a bit of a nuisance, but the download link works fine for me.

Oops, I stand corrected, the demo is a 404.

Sorry. Demo is'n working yet. I will upload it tonight. Keep in touch!

RedRum, I like this background, but your comments will be taken...

PerlFreak, please let me know if you still getting "cannot find server" . My provider do not give me address like scoutsace.org.

Thanks for your comments!

Sorry, don't get me wrong......I'm not saying I dislike your background. I just mean it is hard to read the black text with that specific background.

Well it is pretty hard to understand in a foreign language and as the translate select list doesn't work then I can't change it.

I don't see a difference between your mod and the original Links2 apart from the editor addon (and I believe Bmxer has already written a mod to do this as well as send private messages etc...)

Yes. Sorry. Translate list will be removed. It is part of my site only; not of the mod.

I wrote this mod just one year ago, but wasn't never reliesed. On that age, i made a careful search on forums to get something like this. I didn't find it.

I will check Bmxer mode to have ideas. Sounds good too!.

Unimpressed OK. You've done a good job with admin mod. I just checked it's demo but is really confused. Anyway, it could give me ideas.! Sly
My work will be focused in the same way, but don't know how many time I will have in the near future to continue developing this mod.
The direction of this project will depends of how many enthusiast users can be involved in my personal dir and how many sites establish directories with this mod. Some cooperation can help us to improve our versions!
So, good luck!

how is my mod confusing? It utilizes basic links functions. I could turn it into an editor mod, which i might do. But now its both.

You are the best judge of the success of the mod.

Some other points:
1. I think you should take careful note of comments about the background image -- it makes the text illegible.
2. There is no obvious indication that you have complied with the ODP license at http://dmoz.org/license.html
3. Do the the links to http://www.scoutsace.org/.../dir/links/apply.cgi and http://www.scoutsace.org/...ks/admin/editors.cgi actually work?
4. You have lost some of the original ODP structure, and (I think) some of the categories, eg: http://www.scoutsace.org/..._Unidades/Argentina/ is a dead end, whereas http://dmoz.org/...mo/Grupos/Argentina/ has many links, and a symlink category http://dmoz.org/...ciaciones_de_scouts/

It's my fault. But remember: MY LINKS OPEN DIRECTORY MOD ISN'T ADDRESSED TO COPY OR MIMIC DMOZ RDF INFORMATION. IT'S OBJECTIVE IS BULD INDEPENDENT DATABASES WITH DMOZ METHODOLOGY AND LINKS2.0 FORMAT.

3. Do the the links to http://www.scoutsace.org/cgi-bin/dir/links/apply.cgi and http://www.scoutsace.org/cgi-bin/dir/links/admin/editors.cgi actually work?
Yes they do. But this links must be called from categories links "sea un editor" and "editar"(bottom).
Externall calls do not show forms because they need REFERER variable passed by browser.

4. You have lost some of the original ODP structure, and (I think) some of the categories, eg: http://www.scoutsace.org/dir/Grupos_y_Unidades/Argentina/ is a dead end, whereas http://dmoz.org/World/Espa%f1ol/Recreaci%f3n/Escultismo/Grupos/Argentina/ has many links, and a symlink category http://dmoz.org/World/Espa%f1ol/Pa%edses/Argentina/Recreaci%f3n/Asociaciones_de_scouts/
Again, MY LINKS OPEN DIRECTORY MOD ISN'T ADDRESSED TO COPY OR MIMIC DMOZ RDF INFORMATION. IT'S OBJECTIVE IS BULD INDEPENDENT DATABASES WITH DMOZ METHODOLOGY AND LINKS2.0 FORMAT.
Next versions will have a function similar to goFetch Mod to retrieve data from Dmoz and add it to Links databases. Actually links and categories of my "Directorio Scoutsace" are added manually, no matter what structure has dmoz.

Thank you for your feedback

Could you also script it so it can pull the Dmoz information from a specific category? I.E. I only want to include the Dmoz UK category with my search results http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/

Thanks!

yecarillo,
I'm definitely sure your mod can be a "rival" to mine, and i'm sure it does a good job. I was just posting him my download so he could see. Instead of "rival" maybe its just another solution like mine. More than one way to do something. It gives people more options. Smile

Can't figure it out for sure but... what I believe this Mod does is allow for you to have "editors" to help you build your database... HOWEVER in no way shape of form pulls nor uses DMOZ results within your pages or in your site at all. So, if that is what you waant this is NOT IT. Great effort but unless you want a whole bunch of people messing with your links... I'm not sure if I would use. Then again... I may be wrong :)

I just tried this, I followed the instructions exactly and this is what I get when I try to run the script:

CGI ERROR

Error Message : unable to open database: . Reason: No such file or directory

All permissions are set exactly and everything is exactly as directed.

Anyone any ideas?

ok, just checking, the only thing i can think of is that dmoz.db isn't in your data folder.
but it would tell, because i checked all of the release version of gofetch.cgi and i do not see unable to open database in the error messages. I see unable to open: and thats it, and i have it printing the db names there so you should know which db it is.
