Hi,

Just thought I would post this message up here, because I know alot of people visit this site. Anyway, today I received a message from hahaha@sexyfun.net.

Title:Scavenger Birthday

Subject: Today, Snowhite was turning 18. The 7 Dwarfs always where very educated and
polite with Snowhite. When they go out work at mornign, they promissed a
*huge* surprise. Snowhite was anxious. Suddlently, the door open, and the Seven
Dwarfs enter...

Attachment: Midgets.scr

Fortunately I did not open the attachment. Luckily, I first visited the site sexyfun.net, which can give you all the info on the virus.

Anyway, whatever you do, do not open that message.

Oh, I didn't even realize this was old news....it was first discovered in Sep, 2000! Anyway, it looks like it's still lingering around since I just got an email today.

Obviously, it is being "redistributed". I received a couple of them last Thursday and Friday.

Yeah. I've had that virus sent to me god knows how many times, luckily I have never opened it Laugh

There is another one out now though, it is a right bitch. Its called the W32.Sircam.Worm@mm Frown

Have a look at http://forums.ikonboard.com/...T&f=27&t=420

It gets a file off your hard drive, and sends it to people with the attachment, which is actually the virus! These emails are normally over 200kb in size, and when you get at least 10 a day it gets really on your nerves Frown

Just letting you know Smile

Re: Virus Alert In reply to
If you are not using an email program that has filters in it, then you can't filter them out.

I use PINE -> UNIX based email program to avoid problems with attachments and this program does not have filters.

Also, the email address that is sending out the virus is not the same, so it is difficult to block all the email addresses that are transmitting the virus.

You can always ask your webhost to block the email address or domain (for the bulk of them) Smile

Uh...my hosting company does not have filters installed in their servers, thus they cannot block email addresses on an individual client basis, Paul!

I was talking in general, not about you specifically.

I seems strange not to have any filters or protection at all. I would have thought most modern servers would have built in or configurable protection. For example Sendmail has many options, qmail does too.

Cos it comes from loads of people Wink

It ain't just one person. Also, I don't mind because I can just delete them. Just thought I would alert other users incase they have not seem alerts to this virus; I hear it has caused quite a lot of trouble. I'm surprised it wasn't in the new or something!

Man, so far I've gotten 25 of these things and they take forever to load! What a joke..... there all coming with two attachments, the first being a Plain Text File named Part 1.1 then various named .pif files, and there all coming from different emails and different subjects...so I don't see any way of filtering them out!! Unless you can check the email for any .pif files, if it has it bounce it back. But then, the originating email address will get hammered with returns and if they have a filter set up......it will be a vicious circle!! This sucks.....
