General Information

The Diva Cup Reviewed By Felicity: Diva Cup - This post is for girls, notably people who like to go naked! Guys, if period-conversation makes you uncomfortable, then keep reading ;) Well I came across just a little menstruation (Yeah it's like 6th grade health class all over again) merchandise awhile back called the Diva Cup. I was definitely curious to try it, and when I saw it on the shelf in my local health food store, I snatched it up! The Diva Cup is a silicone-based menstrual cup that's inserted into the vagina just like a tampon. However, instead of absorbing everything, it's all gathered in the cup. You are able to wear it for up to 12 hours at a time (in contrast to changing a tampon every few hours), and it does not leak! (Given it's properly added, and it might take some training.) Would you fear the "ruby wave" crashing your nakation? I know many women do, especially those new to nudism. Well I was excited to review this on my blog because that is great for nudist women! It's so discrete, you no more need to concern yourself with an awkward, visible tampon string. Ladies, this can be a better way to enjoy going completely bare during your period and be more relaxed and comfortable doing so. It took me a couple of days to get used to it, but the cup is really very simple to use. I remember hearing about this type of merchandise quite a while ago, believing it seemed cluttered and a little gross, but it's not. Plus it's so much more suitable than tampons. (Ever been to Sandy Hook unclothed beach and had to trip back and forth to the toilet a mile away?) Additionally, it might take a little bit of exercise, but it really won't leak when it is correctly inserted. The other advantages of using the Diva Cup instead of tampons and sanitary napkins are that it's eco-friendly and saves a lot of money. The Diva Cup folks did some computations, estimating that the average woman will use 10,000 tampons and sanitary napkins in her life. That is a lot of resulting waste and money. Additionally they quote some research: "More than 170,000 tampon applicators were collected along U.S. coastal regions between 1998 and 1999." There is so much plastic and trash that washes up on shores, and I'd prefer never to add my tossed tampon applicators to it. Ick! If properly cared for, the Diva Cup will last for 1 year and costs around $30 to $40, making it more cost effective than tampons/pads purchased in annually. (I found mine for $33.) The drawbacks? For one, I was irritated by the long list of soaps that you should not use to clean it, aka every kind of soap I 'd at home. But truly any light, unscented soap should be fine, or you're able to get the Diva Wash, especially made for this. Another problem is if you end up trying to take it outside and wash it privately in a public bathroom. Nobody wants to take that up to the sink. The solution is simple though: empty it into the bathroom, clean it away with some tissue, and great to go until you get home. For further questions or concerns I recommend heading over to the Diva Cup FAQ page. And I enjoyed it so much, I'm doing my first giveaway!
