URGENT!!: Very bascic question: how to set permissions
I am very new to links. My question is simple: what is the easiest way to set up permissions on a file. I have everything else set up right, so that's the only thing i need to run the program.

When I try to do it with Cuteftp, the I get an error message saying its an invalid command.

Plus, I am not sure about my ASCII transfer. I have dowwnloaded the files in zip format. Unzipped them on my hard drive. And transfered them to my server unsing Cuteftp in ASCII mode, will that do it.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Poulette!

I use WS_ftp the free lite version and that allows one to set the permissions by chmod. Need to check whether your hosting service allows you to run cgi-scripts as well.

Hope that helps

I know how to do it with an FTP program. My problem is that my server doesn't allow that. I get a 'command not allowed' message. I use a windows based server, called Ohttpd, so I can't set the permissions in Unix. Does anybody has any other suggestions? Does 'Apache' allows to do it through FTP?? Maybe I'll just switch to an Apache server. Anyone know if it's easy to set up?

Thanks a lot.
