Protecting Links.db

Protecting Links.db
Basically, I have a WinNT folder/file permission question:

I'm wondering how I can keep someone from downloading my links.db file and stealing my links. Frown

It seems easy to do on a Unix system with .htaccess but what can you do on WinNT to protect links.db yet still use features like Ratings, etc.?

There are a couple things you can do:

1) Put the file in a NON-Web directory (yet keep the same permissions). Having it in a non-web directory will protect it against people accessing it through a URL or FTPing into your server and accessing the file.

2) Download WebSite1.1 from O'Reilly (www.ora.com) and password protect the directory using this third party software.

3) Do some research on Technet at Microsoft.

4) Ask your hosting company for suggestions.

Thanks for the prompt help. I was worried that my first post to this forum would get flamed.

There seem to be more suggestions/solutions in the Unix forum for this type of problem than in the Windows forum. Hope this helps others.
