wsftp chmod problems

wsftp chmod problems
Forgive me if this question is located elsewhere, I can't find it! I don't have my own server up (yet) so my site is being hosted by a company. I don't know how to telnet into it to chmod specific files or even if that's possible so I've been using the chmod feature on wsftp. Problem is, when I chmod a file, it chmods every file in the site. Is this a wsftp problem or a hosting problem. Can someone point me to a tutorial on telnetting or another way to chmod each specific file? I can't go public with my site until this is fixed and it's more secure. Please be gentle with your replies, I'm a newbie and just learning.

I have used WS_FTP with no trouble for ages. You can CHMOD individual file. Just right click the file, and select the chmod (UNIX) option. Then choose what you want the permission to be set to Wink

Hi,

WS_FTP is misleading, when you chmod a file and then go to look at the chmod value of another it shows you the value of the file you just chmodded so it looks like it has chmodded everything to that value, but really it hasn't.

One way to see what is CHMOD to what is to click on the DirInfo button on the lower right of WS-FTP. I suggest that you hit refresh first though because changes you just made won't always show up right away.
