unable to open hit counter: /users/www/cgi/administration/data/hits/17. Reason: No such file or directory is what I get when I try to build my database!

...and when I uncomment the stats-function the rest of the building works like a charm! So this is the only problem.

- My hits-dir is chmod 777, and file 17 exist and has the rights "-rw-rw-r--".
- When I try to chmod 17 by hand I get "Error: Not owner"

What can the problem be?

Search the forum for hit counter and permissions as this has been mentioned many times by other users so you will find an answer I expect.

If you are not the owner of the files you may need to contact your host too.
