can not build pages after installing a mod?

I had links installed correctly, everything worked (eventually) then I added a few lines of code to nph_build and catagory.def. The mod was for adding special characters which, I found on this BBS. Now when trying to buil pages I get this error

Code:
CGI ERROR

Error Message       : Error building! Links database is 0 bytes! 
Script Location     : /usr/home/nofatals/public_html/cgi-bin/links/admin/nph-build.cgi 
Perl Version        : 5.00502

I have added one catagory and two links and still I get this error. Any help/solutions/suggestions?

Howz about providing the EXACT codes you installed in the files, so we can help you verify whether you have made a mistake or not?
