My links20 worked perfect, but NOW freeze in:

Updating New and Popular Records . . .

Why ??????
My db file have 4mb = 14.000 links

Try building via telnet by using;

perl nph-build.cgi

Remember to cd to the correct folder first.

See if that makes a difference. If not, then I would seriously consider updating to Links SQL. Flat file databases can get corrupted very easily with lots of use, especially when they are over 1Mb

I wouldn't even bother building from telnet - 14,000 links is outrageous. I was speaking to Jack Ong the other day (C.O.O of Gossamer-Threads) and he told me that they don't recommend more than 2,500 for Links2 and you have almost 6x that amount.

Links SQL is the only solution IMO.

As for the 2.500 links recommended: apart from the number of fields and mods installed, it also depends on your server's performance. My DB has 4.000 links (1,2 MB), still no probs at all.

There is a big difference between 4,000 and 14,000 and as we can see, he is experiencing problems.

Hehe, I admit, 14.000 sounds unbelieveable. Wonder how long a Telnet rebuild takes...

I wouldn't like to try, although I built 52,000 links 2 days ago and it took 4 hours with Links SQL.

are you serious Paul? The script I'm writing built nearly 89000 in less than 10 minutes after I indexed all the columns!

4000 categories and 52,000 links.

I should mention I hadn't run nph-index.cgi

I figured as much. When I originally run my build without indexing, the 8000 categories and 89000 links took well over 2 hours to build.
